First Latin American Carnival in Dhaka

The Latin American Carnival in Dhaka began on March 1 with a two-day event highlighting the traditions of Latin American countries. The Bangladesh Travel Writers Association – BDTWA organized the festival, which kicked off on Friday afternoon at Bailey Road’s Foreign Service Academy. On Saturday, the festival concluded with the screening of the Brazilian movie “Carandiru” in the evening, followed by the screenings of the Chilean movie “Machuca”, Colombia’s “El Beat”, Cuba’s “Marti-DA Eye of the Canary”, Uruguay’s “Society of the snow”, Peru’s “Margarita” and Argentina’s “The Secret In” There is Ice” movies. The theme of the carnival was “Life is a Carnival”.

Following the movie screening, the festival concluded with a heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the successful organization of the carnival. President of BDTWA Mr. Ashrafuzzaman Uzzal said “We organize various programs throughout the year to promote Bangladesh and travel, including Carnival, Photography and Book Fairs,” he said. “We also highlight the cultures of various countries and continents each year. This year, we have chosen to focus on Latin America. We hope that the visitors have enjoyed and gained valuable knowledge about Latin America, its people and culture.” “We will strive to keep this carnival going in the future,” he added. “I would like to thank all those who worked so hard and contributed so much to the carnival’s success.” The second day saw the presence of officials, representatives from various government and private organizations, as well as honorary consuls from Latin American countries.

The carnival is co-organized by the Honorable Consuls of Brazil in Dhaka, Peru in Dhaka, Chile in Dhaka, Uruguay in Dhaka and Columbia in Dhaka, and American International University Bangladesh – AIUB. The first day of the carnival was inaugurated by Ms. Sehli Sabreen, Director General of Public Diplomacy Branch, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh. The event was attended by representatives of the Brazilian Embassy in Dhaka and Argentinean Embassy in Dhaka.
